Blessings in disguise.
Dear Friend,
Last night as I lied in bed trying to sleep, I started thinking about everyone in my life. You and I are living such different lives. We both started in the same place and ended up on completely different paths.
This afternoon I sat at a table on the hotel’s lawn, the sun was shining. I wrote in my journal and ate eggs on toast and drank green tea. And just kept thinking how different our lives are. I always said I wanted to travel and here I am traveling - even if it’s in Pakistan. In a way, I’m doing what I want to do. But, haven’t really thought of it that way until now. Traveling is traveling - doesn’t matter where. I crave to work on a film again. I crave to be in familiar surroundings again.
Did you know I got in a car accident? Yeah. It was in the mountains just north and too much speed and liquid on the road kept the brakes from working. We went off a cliff - broke a concrete barrier and tumbled down trees and brush - and landed on a gravel road 50 meters below. There were three of us - only the driver wearing a seatbelt. No one was killed or seriously injured. I just sprained my arm and got a sore back. That was already one month ago. Didn’t feel like writing about it until now. Right before it happened, I had a bad feeling. Women’s intuition is real. Wouldn’t you agree?
You know the saying, “Once in a blue moon”? Well, blue moons seem to occur more often here. Sudden lightening storms - so bright that the flash seeps through the sides of the blackout curtains in my room. There’s been two earthquakes since I arrived. First, when we were in the movie theater - didn’t feel it. Second, when I was sitting alone in my room watching the telly and everything started to shake. I ran and stood under the doorway like I was taught. Does that really work? Luke was a mile away at the office working with the guys. He called right away.
Have you realized all while I’ve been here, a flood has come and gone and a group of Chile miners were trapped (for over two months) and rescued? Aye, yi yi.
Even though I didn’t work on a film here, I’m glad this trip came to fruition. And I’ll be even more glad when I return home. But, soon I’ll be ready for another world adventure. Prague? Greece? China?
See you soon,
Brooke
